Jason’s Xerocon Experience

Jason Lyon is Walker Hill’s Practice Manager and the man responsible for the daily running of the firm. Earlier this month, Jason attended Xerocon, an annual accounting and bookkeeping conference.

Find out what Jason thought about the experience in the Q&A below.

Q: We’re here celebrating Xero’s 10th Xerocon. What has been your personal take away from the event?

A: The importance of addressing mental health and wellness issues in business.

Q: What was your biggest take away that you want to implement for the Walker Hill clients?

A: There are new payment gateway services that Xero has partnered with, such as Stripe, giving our clients more flexible and convenient ways to receive payments especially for ongoing services on a recurring basis.

Q: What as your biggest take away that you want to implement for yourself at work and within the firm?

A: I want to look at changing the way we approach internal training and skilling up the team. One idea that I’ve been given at Xerocon is in the implementation and development of skill matrixes to assist with assessment of appropriate training for each staff member.

Q: What has been the biggest thing you learned from the event?

A: Learning about e-invoicing and upcoming changes to the Australian and New Zealand regulatory standards with regards to these.

Q: Who was your favourite keynote speaker and why?

A: I really enjoyed Jaya Baloo’s speech about Cyber Security. She is very engaging, informative and animated in her speaking style.

Q: What were some other things that you found interesting about Xerocon this year?

A: There are a lot of resources that I’m excited to dive into. I’ve listed them below if you’re interested in knowing more.
