Vinnies CEO Sleepout 2016

Walker Hill are teaming up with our digital marketing team Space Digital to raise money and awareness of homelessness by taking part in the 2016 Vinnies CEO Sleepout.

The Vinnies CEO Sleepout is an annual event run by the St Vincent de Paul Society to help raise awareness of homelessness by encouraging top business leaders to sleep rough for one night. CEOs and Managing Directors receive sponsorship from employees, colleagues, friends and family. On the 23rd of June, our company directors, Andrew, Nick and James will spend a night under the Story Bridge. The funds raised go to support Vinnies homeless services and initiatives across Australia.

Some Facts:

> more than 105,000 Australians have no place to call home — almost 20,000 are Queenslanders and approximately 9,700 are in Brisbane.

> 56% of Australia’s homeless population are male; 44% are female.

> Approximately 27% of Australia’s homeless are children.

> More than 24,000 Australians are homeless because of domestic and family violence.

> 2.35 million Australians (one in eight) have experienced homelessness at some point in their life; 1.4 million (one in 12) have slept rough.

More than 1,300 leaders participated in 2015, raising $5.8 million nationally — $871,000 in Queensland. Vinnies also provides advocacy support, budgeting, living skills programs, emergency relief, transitional housing and access to programs that help homeless people rebuild their lives. In order to keep operating costs to a minimum, Vinnies relies heavily on a base of just over 9,000 dedicated volunteers.
